NSF Great Lakes Water Innovation Engine

The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a Regional Innovation Engine to the Great Lakes Water Innovation Engine. This initial investment is $15 million with the potential for additional funding up to $160 million. Great Lakes ReNEW includes a coalition of NGOs, Industry, University Researchers, and National Labs across six states in our region. 

Their mission is to invent new ways to extract valuable minerals and toxic forever chemicals from our wastewater. A primary benefit is the people and communities in the region most harmed by economic and environmental injustice. Because, in a world of increasing water and resource scarcity, “waste” has no place.

Three primary components include: 

1. Use-Inspired R&D, 
2. Workforce Development, and 
3. Translating Innovations to Practice

Panelists include project leaders, industry partners, and feature university researchers and NGOs from the State of Ohio
